Hardcore Ab Training For Athletes
If you want six-pack abs, then pay close attention to this article. Because I’m going to show you what I believe just might be the two top ab exercises for athletes.
First, let’s explain what I mean when I say ab training for athletes. I’m talking about building a set of abs that not only look good, but are functional as well. Abs that can take a punch, if you will.
Best of all, these ab exercises can be done almost anywhere. And you can do each exercise without weight weighted or weighted to increase the degree of difficulty.
The first hardcore ab exercise for athletic abs is the tried and true ab wheel roll out.
You’ll need to get an ab wheel for this movement, but luckily they’re cheap (around ten bucks) and you can find them in almost any major sporting goods store these days.
The beginners version of this exercise is tough. You start on your knees which shortens the movement and makes it a bit easier. As you get stronger, you can do standing ab wheel roll outs or you can add weight by putting a plate on your back (might require a partner) or using a weight vest.
While bodybuilders and figure competitors train their abs with isolation movements, athletes should train the abs to work together with the rest of the body. And that is what’s great about the ab wheel roll out: You are training your entire body as one unit.
The next exercise also helps strengthen the abs while training the entire body as unit. I call this movement the Ab Ripper simply because you WILL feel like your abs have been ripped to shreds after performing this exercise.
Again, the movement is deceptively simple. You start on your back just like you were performing a sit up.
But instead of stopping at the top of the sit up motion, you pull your heels under you and throw your upper body into the movement to force yourself into a standing position.
Once again, this exercise is hard enough to perform without any additional resistance.
By starting with your hands above your head and “throwing” your arms into the movement you can make the exercise easier. Or, to make the movement more difficult you can fold your arms across your chest.
And true hardcore athletes like Colt can hold a weight plate to really take the degree of difficulty to the next level.
So if you forced me to pick only two ab exercises for the rest of my life, I’d have to say these are two I’d go with. Try them for yourself and you’ll see why.
